Remote Region

The remote region trek in Nepal contains a list of all the unexplored paths to find in the remote country of Nepal. The Government of Nepal has placed most of these areas on its list of Restricted Areas, where entry is severely regulated due to the sensitive political, cultural, and environmental conditions there. The Home Ministry officially declared the opening of Nepal's remote, prohibited areas in October 1991. Only group visits were available, and weekly permit costs of between $90 and $500 were the catch. You can only enter certain locations with special government authorization, and the government will send a "Liaison Officer" to check sure everything is going according to plan.

The primary goal of designating these areas as "restricted" is to safeguard the delicate ecosystem and cultural integrity of these areas, as well as to guarantee security for both trekkers' safety and Nepal's northern border with Tibet.

Restricted regions are present for a variety of reasons. Most of the time, it stems from a period when China's border was more delicate than it is now. The government is under pressure from environmental organizations, in particular, the Nepal Nature Conservation Society, to keep some areas restricted for ecological reasons to prevent cultural and environmental destruction.

The government places restrictions in some locations because it doesn't believe it can give the security that hikers demand when something goes wrong (accident, illness, or theft). Some restrictions are also justified politically.

Officially, foreigners are no longer prohibited from entering some areas of Nepal; nonetheless, entry to those places still requires special authorization. Although the number of foreign tourists entering these areas is strictly controlled, a trekking permit is only given out for a specific number of years. Therefore, we advise choosing a vacation from a reputable provider so that you may save time and money. Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, Manalsu, Tsum Valley, Kanchanjunga, and Makalu are some of the remote and off-limits locations.

These locations have incredible lifestyles, diverse ethnic cultures, beautiful scenery, and the Himalayas. Our off-the-beaten-path treks offer you stunning mountain landscapes, from the deep jungle gorges of Manaslu to Kanchanjunga to the high-altitude Trans-Himalayan deserts of Mustang and upper Dolpo. These treks require a different type of trekking and are undoubtedly more expensive than the standard teahouse treks, but the added cost and effort are well worth it. Some of the most amazing treasures in the entire Himalayas are hidden in these outlying areas.
